Hello Friends and Family of Lighthouse Ministries,

We sure hope you’re having a great Labor Day weekend! In our message this past Sunday, Pastor Mark continued our new message series entitled, ReThink. Pastor Mark helped us Rethink Work using Genesis 2.15 and 1 Corinthians 10.31 as our texts. GOD has blessed us all with certain skills, talents, gifts, and graces that He intends for us to use in service of His Kingdom. Often times we look at work as a burden or hindrance to what we really want to do. When we look at work through GOD’s eyes, however, we’ll find we really needs to ReThink work!

AOK for Childcare Center Open House & Dinner (Updated):We will be hosting an AOK dinner on September 7^th  from 6-7pm for the families involved in the Childcare Center. The purpose of this dinner is to help build some connections with families who might be looking for a church. Please make plans to come out and help us by serving, sharing, and shining! We still have need for multiple loaves of fresh Italian bread, gallons of tea and lemonade, desserts, and people to help serve during the dinner. If you can bring something and/or come to help, please contact Kathy Willix ASAP.

 

Small Groups & Disciple Bible Study (NEW): Small Groups are the most important way to connect to the Body of Christ and they coming to Lighthouse Ministries & Cokes Chapel! We have Small Groups that meet nearly every day of the week and range from Sunday School Classes for children, youth, and adults; weekly Bible studies at the church; Disciple Bible Study (Disciple 1-4); FOCUS Youth; Pier 345 for the older elementary school students; men’s and women’s ministries; and community home groups. For more information, please contact Pastor Mark.

Lighthouse Kids Helpers Needed (NEW): We are looking for at least seven new volunteers to serve in our Children’s Church/Lighthouse Kids ministry. Since the ministry unification, we have been averaging 20 children a week and need some more help keeping the children on task and under control. If you are 16 years old or older and would like more information on how you can get involved by aiding our Lighthouse Kids teachers, please contact Tiffany Jordan.

Children’s Sunday School Classes (NEW): Our new Sunday School classes for children will begin September 12! Sunday School begins at 10am and lasts until 10:45am. Please contact Becky McInturff for more information.

Youth Sunday School (NEW): Our new Sunday School class for the FOCUS Youth, facilitated by Mr. Kevin McInturff, will begin September 12! Sunday School begins at 10am and lasts until 10:45am. For more information, please contact Kevin McInturff orBobby Totten.

 

New Adult Sunday School Class (NEW): Our new Sunday School classes for adults, facilitated by Pastor Mark, will begin September 12! Sunday School begins at 10am and lasts until 10:45am. For more information, please contact Pastor Mark.

Lounging @ The Lake Youth Retreat (NEW): The FOCUS Youth will have their end-of-the-summer lake retreat on September 17-19. To register, or receive more information, please contact Bobby Totten.

Wednesday Night Suppers: We are in need of a cook for Wednesday Night Dinners. If you, or someone you know, is interested, please contact the church office.

 

Operation Christmas Child : Operation Christmas Child is a mission project that provides toys and personal items for children in third world countries. We will have plastic shoebox seized boxes available for pickup next week to fill and then return to the church for shipping and distribution.

Children’s Ministries: We are gearing up for children’s programming at Lighthouse Ministries and Cokes Chapel. This Sunday, Lighthouse Kids will resume after a brief hiatus during our transition time. Pier 345 will return next month. We are also in the process of gearing up for a brand new Sunday School ministry that will kick off with our public launch this fall. ReThink Message Series: Pastor Mark has developed a new message series entitled, “ReThink.”   The United Methodist Church has recently been engaged in a marketing campaign called, “ReThink Church.” The purpose of this campaign is to help people who do not have a full grasp on what the UMC is about to realize the emphasis of God’s grace, even when the world is bent towards the contrary. During our ReThink series, we will look at some of Jesus’ teachings as recorded in the Gospel of Luke and consider how following Jesus means a new way at looking at life and the things that are important to us. In this series, we will ReThink:

(2)   The Purpose Of Work (September 5)

(3)   The Things We Believe Have Value (September 12)

(4)   The Meaning Of Wealth (September 19)

(5)   The Need To See Proof (September 26)

Cokes Chapel Childcare Center Enrollment: If you know of any families looking for preschool, daycare, childcare, or an after school care for fall, please let them know that Cokes Chapel is accepting applications at this time. Pass on the word that Cokes Chapel Childcare Center is a great place to be! For more information call 770-253-6414.

 

Weekly Bible Study: Pastor John leads an open Bible Study on Sundays at 4pm in the sanctuary. For more information, please contact the church office.

 

Cub and Boy Scouting @ Cokes Chapel: The Scouts at Cokes Chapel are gearing up for another great year. This award winning program seeks to help boys and young men grow into strong leaders in the community with morals, virtues, and character development. To learn more about scouting at Cokes Chapel, click here.  

Cokes Chapel Worship Choir: The Choir at Cokes Chapel that sings in their 10:55am blended/traditional worship service holds rehearsals on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. If you are interested in joining the choir, come on out for practice that meets in the chapel/sanctuary building.

 

Prayer Meeting: The Prayer Team gathers on Wednesday afternoons from 5-6pm in the sanctuary for prayer. For more information, please contact the church office. We have dedicated persons who seek to serve and support others in the power of prayer. If you ever have any prayers requests, please email them to prayer@lighthouseumc.net. Also, if you’d like to serve on the prayer team, please contact Pastor Mark. 
 

Jubilee Singers: The Jubilee Singers travel to area nursing and assisted living homes to serve, share, and shine every Wednesday morning, meeting at 10:30am.

Subscribing To The LAMP: For those of you who tend to get behind on reading The Lamp, there are a few alternative ways to read this blog. If you use Microsoft Outlook (other email programs have this as well), you have a folder called RSS feeds. You can add this blog as an RSS feed that will show up every time it is updated (kind of like getting a new email). To get our RSS link, click on the orange RSS button at the top of the blog under our sermon series logo. Another way to read the updates is to use a blog subscriber service. Click on the orange RSS button and you'll see the different options. If you read many other blogs, this is a great way to organize all of them. Of course we always send out an email to our list of contact each with tell you that the blog has been updated. There is a link in this email and we will still continue to do that.
